Press Glass: A Triangular Masterpiece in Architecture

Golden A' Design Award Winner Transforms Landscape into a Dynamic Workspace

Press Glass, a unique architectural marvel designed by Tomasz Konior, has won the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in 2021. This innovative office building, nestled in the heart of nature, offers a refreshing perspective on workspace design.

The Press Glass headquarters stands out for its unconventional location and design. Unlike typical office buildings situated in city centers or major communication junctions, this structure is nestled on a green plateau. The inspiration for this design was the natural landscape and the view to the horizon, a rare sight for office buildings. The goal was to create a headquarters that would express the dynamic nature of the company while providing employees with a connection to nature.

The building's unique properties lie in its triangular plan, inspired by a narrow plot cut by a stream, a valuable tree, and a view of the golf course. The storeys differ in size, adding dynamics and ease to the entire structure. Soft, horizontal lines and natural colors integrate the building with the landscape. The design has a clear principle to locate offices along the external facade, while the relax and open space zones are placed around the inner courtyard. This arrangement allows each quiet individual workspace to take full advantage of the natural surroundings and light.

The realization of this design vision involved the use of concrete, steel, and glass. Concrete, the main construction material, was used in the prestressed concrete technology to obtain above-standard spans. The edges of the terraces and balustrades are made of individually designed metal modules. However, the most significant element is glass. Enormous, flat, and rounded panes of the highest technical parameters mark the boundary of the interior, opening it to the surroundings.

The design was based on the figure three. The facility consists of three spaces: the landscape, the building, and the courtyard. The triangular shape reduces the scale of the building, and the fan-shaped terraces blend it into the landscape. The division into three storeys corresponds to their functions. The ground floor is the public zone, the first floor is operational, and the second floor is for management. The entire structure is logically connected by three communication cores.

One of the challenges in creating this design was to meet the needs of employees in the context of body, mind, and spirit. This goal was achieved through the use of pro-ecological technologies and numerous analyses of work comfort, ergonomics, and the proportions of rooms. As a result, an environmentally friendly building with a high quality of work and relax space was achieved. The Press Glass headquarters is a testament to the power of innovative design and its ability to transform landscapes into dynamic workspaces.
